Portable Generator.
Wired To Your Panel.

Generator interlock kits, inlet boxes, and code-compliant backfeed wiring across San Angelo and the Concho Valley. Run your portable generator into your home panel — legally, safely, and without islanding the utility lines.

The Smart Backup Setup
For Most Homes.

A generator interlock kit is one of the best-kept secrets in residential electrical work. For a fraction of the cost of a whole-home standby generator, you get the ability to safely and legally backfeed a portable generator into your panel — meaning you can run any circuit in your house from the generator, not just the few that a manual transfer switch covers. It's code-compliant, inspector-approved, and exactly what most homeowners actually need.

We install generator interlock kits, inlet boxes, and the wiring between them across San Angelo and the surrounding Concho Valley. Every install is panel-specific (interlock kits are made for specific panel brands and models — there's no universal one), wired with proper conduit and an outdoor-rated inlet box, and pulled with a permit. We also do a test run with your generator before we leave, so you know how to operate the system when the lights actually go out.

Six Reasons People Book
Generator Interlock Installs.

From new-generator owners to long-time-portable-haulers, this is the work we do most often.

01

You Already Own A Portable Generator

Got a generator sitting in the garage from a hardware store run two outages ago? Let's actually wire it into your house — safely.

02

Want Backup Without The Cost

A whole-home standby generator is great, but it's a significant investment. An interlock + portable generator is much more affordable and covers most outages.

03

Tired Of Running Extension Cords

Running cords through windows from a generator on the porch is sketchy and limited. Interlock lets you run circuits through the panel — properly.

04

Storm-Prone Area

West Texas thunderstorms knock out power regularly. Interlock + portable means you're ready instead of in the dark.

05

Rural Property Or Long Driveway

Rural service can be slow to restore after outages. Having a portable + interlock means you're not waiting on the utility.

06

Code-Compliant Backfeed

Backfeeding without an interlock is a felony and can kill line workers. The interlock is the legal, safe way to do exactly what you want to do.

Lost Power? Burning Smell?

Don't wait. Electrical emergencies can become dangerous fast.

Interlock Questions.
Honest Answers.

What San Angelo homeowners ask before booking a generator interlock install.

What's a generator interlock kit and how does it work?+
An interlock kit is a sliding metal plate that mounts on your existing panel. It physically prevents the main breaker and the generator backfeed breaker from being on at the same time — which is the safety rule that lets you legally and safely run a portable generator into your panel. You plug your generator into a wall-mounted inlet box outside, flip the main breaker off, slide the interlock, flip the generator breaker on, and choose which circuits to run. Code-compliant. Inspector-approved. A fraction of the cost of a transfer switch.
How is this different from a transfer switch?+
A transfer switch is a separate piece of equipment that handles the same job — keeping utility power and generator power from ever touching. Manual transfer switches typically only handle a few specific circuits (usually 6 or 10), and you flip switches inside the cabinet to run them on generator. An interlock kit gives you access to your whole panel — any circuit you want to run, you just flip on. Both are NEC-compliant. Interlock is usually cheaper and more flexible. Transfer switch is sometimes required by code in commercial settings.
How much does a generator interlock install cost?+
Cost depends on your panel brand and model (some need specific interlock kits), the distance from the panel to where you want the inlet box, and whether the run goes through finished walls or open framing. Every install gets a clear quote before any work starts.
Why can't I just plug my generator into a regular outlet?+
Two reasons. First, regular outlets aren't rated for the continuous 30-50 amp loads a generator pushes. Second, and more important — backfeeding a generator into a regular outlet without an interlock can energize the utility lines outside your house, which kills line workers. That's called "islanding," it's a felony in Texas, and it's exactly why interlock kits exist. The right way is the only way.
What size generator do I need?+
Depends on what you want to run during an outage. A 5,000-watt generator runs the basics — fridge, a few lights, one small AC unit, charging phones. A 7,500-watt unit can run most of a typical home except big AC. A 10,000-watt unit can run most things, including a central AC or a well pump (one at a time). We can talk through what you want to run and recommend a generator size that actually matches.
Is this a permanent solution, or should I get a whole-home standby generator?+
Depends on your priorities. Interlock + portable generator = lower cost, manual operation, you have to start the generator and switch over. Whole-home standby generator = higher cost, automatic, runs on natural gas or propane, kicks on within seconds of an outage. Interlock is great for occasional outages and people who don't mind the manual operation. Standby is better if you have medical equipment, work from home, or just want it to "just work" with no involvement from you.
